Like other leading brands Dell also wants to satisfy its customers by giving most innovative devices. Venue Pro 10 5055 is the spec’d out version of previous Venue tablet and chiefly focuses on students. It comes with improved display, larger hard drive and other enhanced features so you get on optimized overall performance. Let’s review it in detail so you can have a better idea if this is the device you were looking for or not.
DESIGN
Talking of the design lets first focus on its weight and dimensions. Venue Pro 10 5055 measures 10.34 x 0.39 6.92-inches and weighs just 656.9g. Venue Pro 5055 is a hybrid having rubberized edges which makes it slip proof and easy to grip. Though rubberized design makes it easier for us to hold it but we still need to take care of it because it is not ruggedized and shockproof. But at this affordable price we do not expect much from its design and built. It features two main buttons one Windows and the other power button. Both the buttons are of same size and fixed on the adjacent corners of the tablet.
One major problem in the design of this tablet is that it is hard to perfectly attach the tablet to Dell’s Venue Keyboard. Sometimes you might feel the keyboard is securely attached but it is not attached properly which lead to accidental detachments. So it is important to properly check every time whether the two are perfectly attached or not.
KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD
The keyboard works fine but there are some issues with the performance of trackpad. Its complete surface do not allow you to click, you can only click on the bottom sides of the trackpad and sometimes it feels as if it requires more than average force to register a click. The keyboard is good enough for fast typing and gives you a comfortable typing experience.
DISPLAY
Dell has equipped Venue 5055 with a Full HD display having 1920 x 1200 resolution. The display delivers sharp text and clear and bright images which mean you get to enjoy your media at its peak. The stylus works efficiently on the tablet screen. It recognizes every touch accurately and let you have a smooth working experience. But there’ one drawback with the stylus as well. Though it performs well but it works with AAAA battery which is often hard to find.
PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY
If you’re planning to buy this tablet for playing games then don’t even consider buying it. On Venue 5055 3DMark's Cloud Gate had an average score of 1130 with a crawling 4 frames per second whereas the Sky Diver test had an average score of 441. As it is not capable of running games properly it can be considered as the best hybrid tablet you can buy for your kid’s studies. In everyday use which is a mixture of video streaming, web browsing and document writing it gives up to six hours of productive life on a single charge.
FINAL VERDICT
Venue 5055 is a good option for price conscious buyers and students. At this price it gives you a decent user experience as compared to many other cheap devices. But you have to keep a firm hand on docking it with the keyboard and the battery is also at average level. It may not have some fancy features as of iPad air and other tablets but it is still quite suitable tablet for students.
