Design
Lenovo’s 100e Chromebook has a noticeably sleeker and lightweight design. It comes with a plastic-built body that is sturdy and can handle the knocks and bumps. In addition, it is drop-resistant up to 29.5 inches which provide additional protection against water and moisture.
This affordable Chromebooks weighs around 2.64lbs and comes with dimensions of 0.75 x 11.8 x 8.2 inches. Also, its finely textured lid features a Chrome logo on the left corner.
Display
The Lenovo 100E has an 11.6-inch small display with a 1366 x 768 screen resolution. Thanks to Intel UHD 600 Integrated graphics, the device delivers superb visuals with bright colours when you view directly. However, the 100E Chromebook lacks in-Plane Switching panel (IPS) which might be an issue for professionals.
The absence of IPS technology simply means that viewers sitting on the sides can’t have a peek at the screen. The device display is unreadable and you’ll see a washed-out screen form sides.
Keyboard
Lenovo 100e Chromebook features square, chiclet-style keys with albeit shallow, snappy, typing fee. A ThinkPad keyboard could have been better but it’s not possible at this price. Its top-placed row has system function keys, while Caps Lock is replaced by a search key. In short, it is a Chromebook standard keyboard with a smooth touchpad that requires a rather firm tap
Connectivity
Lenovo has added a USB 3.0 port in the 100e Chromebook for fast connectivity. In addition, there is an HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack, an SD card reader and a USB-C port that serves to charge as well. The device features Bluetooth 4.2 and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11AC for Wireless connectivity.
There’s a 720p webcam above the display along with a microphone for skype calls and video chats.
Performance
The Lenovo 100e is equipped with an Intel Celeron N4000 that has a normal frequency of 2.1GHz. In addition to Intel UHD 600 Integrated graphics, the device features a 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage capacity. These are some great specs for a mid-range Chromebook mat this price. The 100e Chromebook only takes 12 seconds to boot to the Chrome OS sign-in screen, which is impressive. We tested the Chromebook with 8 browser tabs, a YouTube video open and a couple of Android apps, and it was still working great.
Battery
Lenovo has armed the 100e Chromebook with a 42Wh battery. We tested its performance against Lenovo’s claim of up to 140 hours of battery life and found the claim right. The device delivered 9 hours 35 minutes of battery life during our test run.
Verdict
Lenovo 100E Chromebook is a sleek, eye-catching device that fulfils the criteria of a Chromebook. Overall, this is one of the most affordable Chromebook that you can get right now. The only drawback that we found is the IPS display and ThinkPad keyboard. However, these features might have raised its price a little higher.
