Indeed, ASUS has loaded this Vivobook S14 with great specs, considering modern computing needs. Let’s see how its design, display and hardware perform under stress.
Design and build
ASUS VivoBook S432 features an innovative design with a plastic body and aluminium sheet lid. The device has a matte finish and makes it hard to fingerprints which is a good thing. We found the design alluring that captures your eyes with its sleek, elegant design.
The lid on this laptop comes with an ErgoLift hinge design and we were unable to open it with a single hand. The ErgoLift mechanism lifts the keyboard deck that offers more room to the fan for breathing. On the bottom panel, there are ventilation grills for heat exhaustion and two cut-outs for speakers.
We found the VivoBook S14 S432 reasonably light, while we were evaluating its design and construction. The laptop weighs around 3.1lbs (1.4kg) and is easy to carry with a profile of 18mm.
Display
ASUS has added a 4-way FHD NanoEdge bezel display on this 14-inch laptop. The display looks aesthetic with an 87% screen to body ration and provides super bright visuals. We found its display satisfactory and the screen offered crisp, lively colours, thanks to NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics. This is an excellent display that delivers rich colours whether you are browsing or working on designing tools.
Keyboard
ASUS Vivobook S432FL comes with an optional backlit keyboard that we found comfortable for typing. It offers a nice, clicky feedback, whereas the distance between keys and travel is appropriate. Overall, this is a decent keyboard for programmers and writers who need a relaxing keypad.
ScreenPad
The second-generation ScreenPad on this ASUS Vivobook S14 is a real treat. This is a 5.65-inch wide touchpad that also acts as a standalone display. It features number keys along with various other utility apps for quick access. The ScreenPad literally works as a virtual assistant that makes things easy for you.
The ScreenPad helps you manage your tasks and let you multitask like a pro. At a glance, the secondary display appears to be a mess but is very helpful in reality. You can move any app from the primary display to ScreenPad and work on it. We use it to run videos, social media apps and for basic calculations and found it really obliging.
Connectivity
ASUS Vivobook S14 S432FL has a nice collection of ports that are spread on both sides of the laptop. The right houses more number of ports, including a Type-A USB 3.1 port and a Type-C USB 3.1 port. In addition, there is an HDMI output port, DC power input and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Performance and specs
The model we reviewed came with a 10th generation Core i7- 10510U processor. This is a high-speed quad-core CPU that is capable to handle office tasks, heavy software, programming, and moderate media editing. The processor has an 8MB cache size with 1.8GHz base clock speed and can go up to 4.9GHz.
Our model was equipped with an 8GB memory paired with an enormous 1TB SSD storage drive. This is a great combination that ensures you get both the speed and space to accomplish tasks. We ran everyday office programs and designing tools to test the RAM and it offered us a smooth performance.
We noticed slight lagging when we ran the premier Pro app, so you must not multitask while running advanced applications. Its 1TB SSD storage is super-fast and we were able to access the data in less than seconds. Plus, such a huge storage means you get to keep all your data in one place.
ASUS Vivobook S14 S432FL that we tested has an NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics card. Although this is a lower-end GPU, it is still far better than an Intel UHD card. It is a good GPU that lets you enjoy light gaming with superior graphics. However, it isn’t good for heavy gaming but you can play them on lower settings if you want to.
Battery life
ASUS Vivobook S432FL comes with a 42Wh battery that is modest by all means. Surprisingly, it can offer a battery life of up to 10 hours one a single charge. The results showed that it can offer more than 9 hours of video playback and around 10 hours of web browsing.
Verdict
ASUS Vivobook S14 S432FL is a great choice among Core i7 laptops. This is a budget laptop that offers you powerful hardware with an aesthetic design. The combination of 10th generation CPU with 1TB SSD storage and NVIDIA GPU makes it a perfect choice on the market.
