On paper, the Yoga 730 appears to be a convertible with specs of a formidable laptop or desktop PC. The hardware on this device is formidable, while its battery is promising that many users will find intriguing. Let’s dig in detain to find out what are the strengths and weaknesses of this touchscreen laptop.
Design
Lenovo Yoga 730 has a compact chassis but the first thing one will notice upon lifting it is its weight. For a laptop with a thin body and small footprint, it is a bit heavy with a weight around2.62lbs (1.19kg). Nonetheless, it is not too heavy to lug around and you can easily carry it without having fatigue.
It features an aluminium chassis with minimalistic look with sharper edges and an engraved ‘Yoga’ logo on the corner. This is a durable design with dual hinges and rounding on the back that makes it more angular. Overall, we found the design of Yoga 730 to be the ideal laptop for business users and multitaskers unless you are looking for a truly light device.
Display
If you just look at the specifications, the display on Lenovo Yoga 730 looks solid and worth the price. This is a 13.3-inch touchscreen display with an FHD panel equipped with IPS technology and a resolution of 1080p. The bezels on this touchscreen laptop are thin i.e. around 5.9mm and the display has an anti-glare coating to offer a better visual experience under lights.
Overall, the display doesn’t feel cheap and you won’t a gap between the LCD glass and screen, which is a common incompletion found in most touchscreen laptops. Additionally, there is a 720p webcam right above the screen at the top middle of the display.
Does the Yoga 730 offer a solid touchscreen?
Coming to our main question, the touchscreen on Lenovo Yoga 730 is arguably good and delivers a solid performance. It features a responsive touchscreen that responds well to commands and offers pen support too. However, everything has its limitations and the touchscreen on the Yoga 730 is no different.
We found its display surface to be glossy with a finish that catches fingerprints easily. This is a situation that you’ll encounter the most if you like to use the 2-in-1 laptops in the tablet mode. Although it has an anti-glare coating, we found it inadequate and no match for actual sunlight. We also witnessed some dominant purple tones and found the touchscreen a bit dark even at the brightest setting.
Overall, this is a convincingly good touchscreen that we found promisingly productive for IT managers and business users. The Yoga 730 is indeed a solid touchscreen laptop that doesn’t hold back and delivers superb visuals with bright lively colours.
Keyboard
Of course, the keyboard on this 2-in-1 laptop is not going to be as good as a traditional laptop. But, this is a good one as compared to other convertibles with the typical keyboard deck. The keys are appropriately placed with an almost 1mm key travel and we found it to be accurate.
Using this keyboard takes some time, but you’ll find it responsive and will get used to it within a few days. Also, there is a fingerprint scanner on the left side of the keyboard deck below the keyboard.
Touchpad
The touchpad on this convertible is highly responsive and comes with the Microsoft Precision. So, you will enable us to grasp Windows-specific multiple gestures and movement, which is something that professionals will surely adore. We didn’t find unnecessary separation or give on its body and it felt comfy with very little resistance.
Connectivity
The port selection on Lenovo Yoga 730 is generously modern for an affordable touchscreen laptop with a compact body. On the right side, it houses the power button along with an HDMI output port. You’ll find two Type-C USB ports with Thunderbolt support on the left side and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This is a balanced selection where you get USB-C ports for fast data transfer and fast charging.
Battery life
Lenovo claims that the battery on the Yoga 730 can last up to 11 hours and 30 minutes. But we all know how that this is a generous asking from a 51Wh battery and it won’t stay that long when we are going to run graphics-heavy apps, right?
We tested its performance by running our Avengers movie test and were able to secure about 6 hours of battery life. However, if you are a professional who uses a laptop only for productive tasks and leisure, you’ll get a full working day battery and will still be left with enough juice to watch a movie.
Final Verdict
Overall, Lenovo Yoga 730 delivers a solid performance as a touchscreen laptop, thanks to some high-end specs. The display on this ultra-portable, thin laptop is worth the price and totally fits the bill. You would found it responsive with our without the pen and can work on tasks at whiche
