Microsoft settled on the large sum on the grounds of Windows 10 being installed without permission on Teri Goldstein’s computer, who initiated the lawsuit. Goldstein claimed that she did not authorise the Windows 10 update, and it had led to her work computer becoming virtually unusable. She was successful in her lawsuit against Microsoft, and gained compensation for any missed wages due to the update, as well as a replacement computer. This instance of Windows 10 rendering a device unworkable seems infrequent as Microsoft have pledged to regularly update Windows 10 in order to acquire the best operating system possible.
Why Windows 10?
Since the launch of Windows 10, many updates and adjustments have already been put into place by Microsoft, and more will most likely follow. For the most part, Windows 10 is perceived as a welcome improvement from the previous Windows 8, which many users had found very unclear and problematic to use. It also made Windows touchscreen devices problematic to use. Windows 10 works best in desktop version, and the new operating system has shifted its focus from touchscreen-use to solving issues from the previous version.
What Microsoft states about Windows 10:
“Windows 10 is familiar and easy to use, with lots of similarities to Windows 7 including the Start menu.
It starts up and resumes fast, has more built-in security to help keep you safe, and is designed to work with software and hardware that you already have”.
